Olefinas’ vision, created by Van McNeel, rose from the situation seen in banana fields in Ecuador around the 50s’. The panorama was insect infestation, damaged fruit, besides inadequate packaging. Therefore, this vision was to improve fruit production and packaging in Latin America, mainly in the banana sector. And so, the first manufacturing company in its kind was created; producer and distributor of specialized plastics for agriculture, industry, and commerce use.

 The first line of products was guided towards the banana industry: polyethylene bags impregnated with special chemical agents which contributed to decrease insect and fungus problems, and other plagues; high-strength rope and twine made from polypropylene and other packing materials, and also adhesive tape.
